3 weeks ago we were exhibiting at FIE in London (Food Ingredients Exhibition). Our stand was in the Organic Pavilion area of FIE. The show was good with a lot of new and old contacts and interesting discussions. For the people involved in the organic industry the main topic was the shortage of quite a few organic commodities and ingredients. The problem in Europe is simply that while the market has been growing strongly, the organic acreage has not. The bad crop in 2006 emptied everybody’s stocks and 2007 crop – while normal in most places – does not meet the demand. Result: shortages, increase in prices etc. The conventional cereal market has pushed the prices further up.
